1.English Poetry has a very long history, starting with “ The Beowulf “, one of the first poetic works in English history and lasting till nowadays ( музыка чуть громче, на экране – портрет Шекспира ) 2. We want to start our story with the Middle Ages. The forfather of English poetry is justly considered to be William Shakespear. William Shakespear is often described as the greatest writer and poet in English literature. 1. Shakespear was born in Stratford-upon-Avon on the 23-d April 1564. He was the eldest son of a wealthy glove maker and wool merchant. Little is known about his childhood, but he probably attended the local grammar school. In 1582 he married Anna Hathaway and they had three children. 2. He quickly established a reputation as a writer of plays for the company and appeared in his own dramas at the “ Globe Theatre”, founded by himself. He also wrote many poems, the best known of which are The Sonnets, a series of love poems addressed to an unknown man and a “dark” lady. The poems are famous for their beautiful language and strong emotions. ( приложение №1 “My soul is dark…”) 1. Shakespeare returned to Stratford-upon-Avon in about 1611 and died there in 1616. One of his friends wrote of him: “ He was not of an age, but for all time “ (звучит монолог Гамлета «Быть иль не быть…» в записи в исполнении выпускника гимназии и перевод в исполнении В.Высоцкого) ( сонет «Мешать соединенью двух сердец…» с переводом Приложение №2) ( звучит кельтская музыка) ( на экране- портрет Р.Бернса) 1.The times changed, so changed the poetry. The age of Renasiance brought new names and new literature. Robert Burns, the national poet of Scotland, was born in 1759 and lived to be 37. He greatly enriched English literature with unforgettable works. 2. Burns was born in the southwest lowland into a poor family. Young Robert got his education at the local school (where he was an excellent English scholar) and supplemented it by continuous reading. 1. He wrote about the flowering fields and birds singing in the trees, the life of Scottish peasants and the cares and ecstasies of his own heart. Perhaps his best poems are songs of love and nature and his moving often humorous narratives of joys and mishaps of humble life. ( на экране сменяются виды пейзажей) 2. At the age of twenty-seven Robert Burns published a volume of his poetry. To his surprise it was a success and he went to Edinburgh to arrange for the second edition . There he became a celebrated figure among his admiring readers. (“Red, red rose” приложение №3) 1. At Dumfries, married to the sweetheart of his youth Jean Armour, he spent the last years of his life. He died at the age of thirty-seven. A lot of his poems were put in to music. His best known songs date from his final years. 2. “Auld Lang Syne” is one of the Burn’s most widely known works. It is sung by British people when they celebrate the beginning of the new year at 12 o’clock on December 31st and on other important occasions. (звучит запись песни “Auld Lang Syne”) ( приложение №4 “ Silver” by Walter de la Mare) 1. Poetry has a lot of different styles: drama and lyrics, verses for songs and poems for children. A limerick is a humorous short poem with five lines: three long and two short ones. ( звучит веселая музыка. Ребята разыгрывают лимерики) Приложение №5 2. A lot of poets devoted their works to the description of British nature. Robert Frost and W.H.Davies are among them. ( на экране пейзажи сменяются, “Stopping by Woods”, “Leisure” приложение №6,7) 1. So, we tried tell you a little about English Poets and their Poetry. We hope you have enjoyed the poems and songs. Thank you for being attentive. (выходят все участники и поют “It’s a small world” Приложение №1 My soul is dark – Oh! Quickly string The harp I yet can brook to hear; And let my gentle fingers fling Its melting murmurs o’er mine ear. If in this heart a hope be dear, That sound shall charm it forth again; If in this eyes there lurk a tear, Twill flow, and cease to burn my brain. But bid the strain be will and deep, Not let thy notes of be first: I tell thee, minstrel, I must weep, Or else this heavy heart will burst; For it hath been by sorrow nursed, And ached in sleepless silence long; And now ‘tis doomed to know the worst, And break at once – or yield to song. Ю.Лермонтова) Приложение №2 Let me not to marriage of true minds Admit impediments. Love is not love Which alters when it alteration finds, Or bends with remover to remove: O no! it is an ever fixed mark That looks on tempests and is never shaken; It is the star to every wandering bark, Whose worth’s unknown, although his height be taken. Love’s not Time’s fool, though rosy lips and cheeks Within his bending sickle’s compass come: Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks, But bears it out even to the edge of doom. If this be error and upon me proved, I never write, nor no man ever loved. Мешать соединенью двух сердец Я не намерен. Может ли измена Любви безмерной положить конец? Любовь не знает убыли и тлена. Любовь – над бурей поднятый маяк, Не меркнущий во мраке и тумане. Любовь – звезда, которою моряк Определяет место в океане. Любовь – не кукла жалкая в руках У времени, стирающего розы На пламенных устах и на щеках, И не страшны ей времени угрозы. А если я не прав и лжет мой стих. То нет любви – и нет стихов моих! ( перевод С.Я.Маршака) Приложение №3 A Red, Red Rose (by Robert Burns) O, my love is like a red, red rose, That’s newly sprung in June. O’ my love is the melody, That’s sweetly played in tune. As fair thou, my bonny lass, So deep in love am I, And I will love thee still, my dear, Till all the seas go dry. Till all the seas go dry, my dear, And the rocks melt with the sun! And I will love thee still, my dear, While the sands of life shall run. And fare thee well, my only love, And fare thee well a white! And I will come again, my love, Though it were ten thousand mile! Приложение №4 SILVER ( by Walter de la Mare) Slow, silently, now the Moon Walks the night in her silver shoon; This way, and that, she peers, and sees Silver fruit upon silver trees, One by one the casements catch Her beams beneath the silver thatch, Couched in his kennel, like a log, With paws of silver sleeps the dog; From their shadowy cote the white breasts peep Of doves in a silver-feathered sleep; A harvest mouse goes scampering by With silver claws and silver eye And moveless fish in the water gleam, By silver reeds in a silver stream. Приложение №5 Limericks 1. There was a Young Lady whose nose Was so long that it reached to her toes; So she hired an old lady, Whose conduct was steady To carry that wonderful nose. 2. There was an Old Man with a poker Who wanted his face with red ochre When they said, “You’re a Guy!” He made no reply But knocked them all down with his poker. 3. There was an Old Man of the North, Who fell into a basin of broth; But a laudable cook Fished him out with a hook, Which saved that Old Man of the North. 4. There was an Old Man of the East, Who gave all his children a feast; But they all ate so much, And their conduct was such That it killed that Old Man of the East. Приложение №6 Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening ( by Robert Frost ) Whose woods these are I think I know His house is in the village though; He will not see me stopping here To watch his woods fill up with snow. My little horse must think it queer To stop without a farmhouse near Between the woods and frozen lake The darkest evening of the year. He gives his harness bells a shake To ask if there is some mistake. The only other sound’s the sweep Of easy wind and downy flake. The woods are lovely, dark and deep. But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep. Приложение №7 LEISURE (by W.H.Davies) What is this life if, full of care, We have no time to stand and stare? No time to stand beneath the boughs And stare as long as sheep or cows. No time to see when woods we pass, Where squirrels hide nuts in grass. No time to see, in broad daylight, Streams full of stars, like skies at night. No time to turn at Beauty’s glance, And watch her feet, how they can dance. No time to wait till her mouth can Enrich that smile her eyes began. A poor life this is, full of care, We have no time to stand and stare.
