Summary The Central Asian Research and Education Network ИКТ является движущей силой для построения общества основанного на знаниях через образование, науку и инновации, и развитие The Central Asian Research and Education Network EC-funded project to establish high-capacity R&E network in Central Asia Beneficiary countries/NRENs: – Kazakhstan – KazRENA – Kyrgyzstan – KRENA – Tajikistan – TARENA – Turkmenistan – TURENA – Uzbekistan - Will serve 1 million users at over 500 universities and research institutes in the region With direct link to GÉANT, CAREN will provide Central Asia with a gateway to global collaborations in R&E The Central Asian Research and Education Network World Connectivity Creating Global Research Community The GÉANT network has high speed links to networks in other world regions, connecting researchers across the globe: Asia-Pacific South Caucasus Central Asia Latin America North America Southern and Eastern Africa Southern Mediterranean The Central Asian Research and Education Network CAREN connectivity to GEANT (Europe) and TEIN (Asia) The Central Asian Research and Education Network CAREN: From ancient trade route to high-speed data network For many centuries the Silk Road was the long-distance route for trade and communication across Central Asia, linking Europe and Asia. Today, the Central Asia Research and Education Network (CAREN) is upgrading this route to a 21st-century high-speed Internet highway for research centers and educational institutions throughout the region. Cofounded by the EC and launched in 2010, CAREN interconnects over 500 universities and research institutes in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan, with Uzbekistan also a candidate country. Thanks to its interconnection with GÉANT, CAREN allows seamless collaboration between Central Asia and Europe, providing the region with a gateway to global research collaboration. The Central Asian Research and Education Network First time regional telemedicine session using CAREN infrastructure and Vidyo system National Cardiology Center, Bishkek, March 27,2014 The Central Asian Research and Education Network ACROSS - Advanced Remote Sensing Ground Truth Demo and Test Facilities It is part of a larger initiative: Global Earth Monitoring and Validation System (GEMINIS) led by GFZ and shall become part of the new national infrastructure roadmap plan of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research basis of a future global observation initiative Among the many aims of ACROSS: Support the development of forecasting and early warning systems in order to minimise the impacts of extreme events (extreme weather events like floods and droughts, freshwater quality, desertification, earthquakes, landslides, tsunamis, etc.). The Central Asian Research and Education Network Seismic Early Warning / Rapid Response In the framework of ACROSS, GFZ will develop monitoring system for (regional) Seismic Early Warning/Rapid Response (starting from 2014). It is planned to install about 50 stations and two vertical arrays. To fulfill the ACROSS requirements: -Develop of a monitoring system that can be generalized and exported to other “hazards” -Define (or implement) standards for data acquisition/archive/exchange ACROSS and GEMIS will benefit from as well as contribute to the European research infrastructure initiative European Plate Observing System (EPOS). The Central Asian Research and Education Network Case studies Case study on “Tracking Kyrgyzstan’s melting glaciers” was printed out in Bishkek. Information was provided by Central Asian Institute for Applied Geosciences (CAIAG) and their partners German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) in Potsdam. The case study was given to Ministry for Foreign Affairs and German Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic for the Ministerial Meeting which held in Bishkek on November 27, 2013. Support to TARENA to prepare next case study on “Seismology”.
