Bossaball
• Bossaball is a sport which is similar
to volleyball, and also includes elements
of football, gymnastics and capoeira.
This sport was developed by Filip
Eyckmans in 2004 in Spain. The term
bossa means 'style' in Portuguese, and it
is often associated with the Bossa Nova
or samba type of music. It suggests that
the aim of bossaball is to express sports,
music and positive vibrations at the
same time.
• Bossaball is played on an inflatable court
with trampolines on each side of the net.
This allows the players to bounce as high
as they can to spike the ball.
• Bossaball involves two teams with 4 or 5
players each. The height of the net can
be adjusted depending on who plays. A
team gain points by scoring or by an
opponent’s fault.

Toe wrestling
• In the 1970s, a group of friends at the Ye Olde
Royal Oak Inn in Staffordshire bemoaned
England’s lack of dominance in the world
sporting scene. If they invented a sport that no
one else was playing, they’d have to win! And
toe wrestling was born. In this activity, barefoot
competitors link their big toes on a specially
designed “toedium” and attempt to pin the
other’s foot to the ground in a manner similar to
arm wrestling.

when 13 teams gathered to play for the Finnish
Championship.

Sweden, Iceland, Holland, Russia and Brazil. The
World Championships in swamp football is played
in northern Finland, the first taking place in 2000.

• Chess boxing is a hybrid sport that is a
combination of chess and boxing; played in
alternate rounds. This sport is gaining
popularity in Germany, UK, India, and
Russia.
• The participants in chess boxing must have
skills in both sports; they can with a game
either way. A full chess-boxing match has
eleven rounds, with six rounds of chess, five
rounds of boxing and a 1-minute break each
round. The bouts start and end in chess play.
The chess can last up to three or four
minutes, the boxing match can last up to
three minutes. The participants only have 12
minutes to use all of their chess moves.

their house. Everyone was sitting on
