This may be because of shopping opportunities, nightlife, entertainment, or their place in history. If you are lucky enough to see all these streets firsthand, then you are a real lucky person! The theme "Famous streets of the world"was suggested as one of the topics of individual projects in English. I am interested in this topic, because I can learn a lot from it, and also get acquainted with the streets of other countries. Find out the history of the origin of these streets. Perhaps some of them were named after a famous person, or the street was named after its beauty and uniqueness. This topic can also introduce you to the sights of other countries. This work is relevant since modern people have the opportunity to travel around the world, and knowledge of the sights of the visited country will allow them to immediately determine the route. Goals of the work: Think about which streets from a particular country can be called famous, find out why they became famous and how they got their name. To achieve these goals, we have identified the following tasks: 1. expand your horizons by studying various sources; 2. prove that the streets found are worthy of being called "famous", that each street has its own unique history. 3 Chapter 1. Famous streets of France 1.1. The Champs-Elysees is a landmark street for the Parisians, where they come on days of national jubilation or grief. For the whole world, the Champs-Elysees is a symbol of luxury and wealth, one of the most fashionable streets in the world. This is one of those places in the French capital that every tourist should visit in order to say with good reason: "Yes, I have seen Paris!» 1.2. Richelieu Street. Cardinal Richelieu played an important role in the history of France, so one of the main streets of Paris was named after him. After passing through it, tourists will be able to learn the smallest details about the Royal Palace – the Palais Royal, walk through the delightful Park, look into the world of books of the National library. Croissant can already be attributed to the attractions of France, it is here that the oldest bakery is located, where it was first prepared. A delicious snack is provided! 1.3. The Red light Street. Incredibly juicy stories about the local goddesses of love are known all over the world. Paris represents a combination of romanticism and human lust. An example is the Bois de Boulogne, where elderly people, moms and nannies with children meet in the daytime, couples in love relax in the evening, and at night there is an atmosphere of debauchery and exhibitionism. As a tourist attraction in France, there is a building "Moulin Rouge".[4] 4 Chapter 2. Famous streets of the USA 2.1.Broadway is not only the main street of new York, and possibly the entire United States, it is also a record – holder among streets in length. The road runs through the entire city and goes further North, passing small towns, it stretches all the way to Albany. But even in new York, Broadway is striking in its length, and there are few people who will walk at least half of the street in one day. 2.2. The center of Hollywood is its famous Walk of Fame. You get off the bus and immediately start trampling the stars with your feet. The Alley itself seems endless. It stretches from East to West along Hollywood Boulevard and has in its Arsenal more than 2,500 red stars with the names of famous and unknown to us, not born in America, celebrities. 2.3. Fifth Avenue — a street in the heart of Manhattan, which is also a bright symbol of new York. Quirkily cutting the area into two halves, the famous Avenue represents the beginning of the beginning – it is from here that the numbering of all city streets is counted. A prominent Avenue starts from Washington square, running North, framing the Eastern part of Central Park. But, in addition to the unique geographical position of the wrapper, the value is the filling, that is, the content of the street. Boutiques and stores of world-famous labels and corporations are located here.[1] 5 Chapter 3. Famous streets of Great Britain 3.1. Piccadilly. Located in Westminster and until the 17th century called Portuguese street and the road to reading, Piccadilly is one of the busiest and most eventful streets in the city. It starts at the square of the same name and leads to Hyde Park. Here you can find a variety of events, visit exhibitions, street theaters, various shows and enjoy excellent cuisine, as it is here that many famous restaurants and bars in London are located. 3.2. Baker Street invariably attracts crowds of tourists, many of whom are fans of the literary work of A. Conan Doyle, because it is here in the house at number 211b allegedly once lived a fictional genius of private investigation Sherlock Holmes. Baker Street was founded in the XVIII century by the Builder William Baker, whose name it still bears to this day. Baker Street is located in the Marylebone area and has a length of about two and a half kilometers. The house of Sherlock Holmes, which many tourists who come to London want to visit, in fact, existed for a long time only in the works of A. Conan Doyle. 3.3. Downing Street. In London, this street occupies a special place among objects of political significance. This street is the residence of the British Prime Minister, 6 and the name of the street seems familiar to many, primarily due to the fact that Downing Street is often mentioned in news releases. Otherwise, the street has nothing remarkable.[2] Chapter 4. Famous streets of Russia 4.1. Old Arbat One of the most ancient streets, which is more than 500 years old. Previously, only wooden buildings were built here, which were regularly destroyed by fire. Only in the 19th century it began to acquire the features that have come down to our time. There are more and more legends and incredible stories about this part of the city. On the Arbat there are memorial apartments of A. S. Pushkin, M. Lermontov, M. Tsvetaeva. 4.2. Tverskaya Street Also one of the oldest streets. Its formation dates back to the 14th century. At one time, it was the most prestigious street where Russian nobility and rich merchants lived. The best shopping malls and Inns were located on it. It was used by Imperial corteges traveling from Saint Petersburg to Moscow. Therefore, it has Triumphal arches, symbols of victory and prosperity of the reigning Emperor. 4.3. Tsvetnoy Boulevard 7 A favorite place for Muscovites and guests of the capital to make a date, and just for small walks. Until the middle of the 19th century, it was called Trubny Boulevard, but it was renamed Tsvetnoy Boulevard, because of the flower market located in this place. The famous Moscow circus is located here. Chapter 5. History of street names of famous cities in the world 5.1. History of street names in France. In Paris, there is a kind of cult of the street with character and even a rivalry between the streets. The name of the street also plays a role, but at the same time, the character of the street is directly related to its name. For example, the name of the streets of Paris originated in the 20th century. They are named after European cities. So the streets of Amsterdam, Florence, and even Rome appeared on the map of Paris. Also, some street names are associated with their location. For example, the street Bourg-I'abbe, which means that this street runs between the city-Bourg and the Abbey-Abbe. 5.2. History of street names in the USA. It is significant that the numerical name prevails. American suburbs and villages prefer to give streets beautiful names (for example, the famous series of horror films elm Street\Elm Street). Developers and local residents usually insist on the colorfulness of the name, because it is psychologically more pleasant to live on such streets, and houses with similar addresses sell better. 5.3. History of street names in Great Britain. Street names in English often consist of two parts: an individual name (specific – ‘specific‘) and a street type indicator (generalized’generic'). Examples of such names include Park Avenue, Main Road, and Fleet Street. The street name can also contain the names of the cardinal directions: East (East), West (West), North (North), South (South), as well as their intermediate ones: NW (North-East – Northwest), NE (North-Eastnortheast), SW (South – West-southwest), SE (South-East – Southeast). 8 5.4. History of street names in Russia. The most popular were the names of cities associated with nature. Leader-Lesnaya street. There are 158 of them in our country. Following on the popularity of nature names — Sadovaya street, Field, Park and Green. However, the names that we inherited from the Soviet era are no less, just the palm tree is still held by Lesnaya street. Just one less Central street in Russia. And Soviet avenues, streets and highways, despite the fact that the Union has not existed for two decades, still as many as 149. And this is the fourth most popular name. CONCLUSION "The street, like a mirror, reflects the entire life of a person both on weekdays and on holidays." Street names carry the memory of generations, the memory of people whose lives were connected with the city or district. Their names reflect not only the history of the city and its inhabitants, but also the history of the country. Therefore, we need to know what events took place in the city and in the country, whose name the streets of the city are named after, how their lives were reflected in history and preserve this knowledge for future generations. I believe that we have the right to be proud of our people, our city, and our country. 9 USED SOURCES 1. http://www.americaru.com/news/21844 2. https://londonmania.ru/stories/london-streets 3. https://wikiway.com/usa/dostoprimechatelnosti-tag-ulicy/ 4. https://paris10.ru/10-samykh-izvestnykh-ulic-parizha 10 11
