The article deals with history of the studies of Alexander the Great Portraiture in the XX century. The
author defines the main stages of the historiography analyzing the development of methods. The article
clearly demonstrates that this topic was closely connected with the historical conceptions of Alexander.
The prominent role that Alexander played in the philosophy and ideology in the XXth century is an important
factor influencing the artistic historian studies, devoted to this matter.
